Dealing with Soft Ccontact Lens ComplicationsSoft contact lens complications vary from being very minor to severe. If you experience soft contact lens complications it is suggested that you cease wearing soft lenses and see your eye doctor. Some of the complications caused by soft lenses are as minor as redness of the eye and eye irritation. This type of complication usually ends after a day or two. However, if it lasts longer than a week, you should cease wearing the lenses. Other soft lens complications include infections of the eye, inflammation of the eye, allergic reactions to lens care products, abrasions, blood vessel growth into the cornea, and changes in the shape of the cornea. However, the complication that causes the greatest concern is that of infection caused by bacteria. This type of infection could affect your sight and it is extremely important that you take the appropriate steps to prevent infection. Following the simple health and safety measure your optometrist suggests can prevent infections. This includes washing your hands before using the lenses or removing them. Using fresh, sterile lens solutions, and not sleeping with your lenses on unless they are extended wear lenses. The risk of soft contact lens complications is only about 1%. This figure does increase to about 3% if you sleep with them on. With such a low rate of complications, soft lens contacts appear to be an ideal product for almost any individual needing corrective lenses. The extended wear lenses can be worn during both sporting activities and while sleeping making them an ideal alternative to regular glasses.
