Is There a Dry Eyes Contact Lens?If you have dry eyes a contact lens might exacerbate your situation. However, there is not a special dry eyes contact lens that will correct your dry eyes. This is because dry eyes are caused by aging when the body produces fewer tears to moisturize the eye. Because of this, dry eyes can be aggravated by the lack of moisture, contact lenses, the environment, and other considerations. While there are some contact lenses that work to not dry your eyes out further, there is no curing your dry eye problem. However, there are certain treatments you can try to help alleviate the aggravating symptoms. One of the more popular treatments is replacement tears. These are basically just eye drops that replace the moisture in your eyes. They act as the tears your body is no longer producing and generally alleviate the symptoms. For individuals with more severe dry eye problems there is an ointment that can be applied before bed that will help soothe the eye through the night and keep it moist. Then during the day individuals generally continue using the tear eye drops. If neither of these remedies work for your dry eye symptoms, then you should talk to your doctor about other options. One of the other options is to have small plugs placed in your tear ducts to help reduce the loss of tears and increase moisture in the eye. This works for some individuals, and not for others. However, even after this procedure you may be required to use the eye drops or ointment.
