Contact LenssNot so long ago, poor vision kept people from living the kind of lifestyle they wanted; before contact lenss became easily available, affordable, and comfortable, bulky eyeglasses restricted the kind of activity people could enjoy and also contributed to feelings of dissatisfaction with personal appearance. Now, according to the Contact Lens Council of America, more than 34 million Americans wear contact lenss and can enjoy active lifestyles, thanks to the great variety in styles and technologies of lenses. There are two main types of contact lenss: soft contacts, or hydrophilic (they can contain from 25% to 75% water) and rigid contacts, also known as gas permeable or RGP. The soft contacts are more comfortable to wear because they mold themselves to the surface of your eye like a glove fits your hand. Also, soft contacts can be fashioned to change the color of your eye: soft opaque contacts are available to change even dark eyes to lighter and brighter colors. You can also get disposable soft contact lenss, reducing the amount of time and money you need to spend with cleaning. Rigid, or RGP contact lenss, are smaller and harder than soft contacts, covering only the iris of your eye, and their physical composition allows oxygen to pass through the lens to the eye itself, thus serving to keep your eye healthier. Plus they tend to have better success than soft contacts in correcting the vision of more irregularly shaped eyes. However, they are harder to get used to because they are so hard and uncomfortable, which is why most people prefer soft contacts. Whatever kind of contact lenss you choose, you should have no trouble finding the perfect solution for your vision and your lifestyle needs.
