What to Expect from a Contact Lens Fitting

When your optometrist calls you to let you know your contacts have arrived at the office, it is time for you to go in for your contact lens fitting. However, perhaps you do not know what to expect from your contact lens fitting and would like some additional information. Basically, when you go in for your contact lens fitting the optometrist will talk to you about contacts, cleaning, proper wearing and storage techniques and the like. Also, your optometrist will insert the left and right contacts into the respective eyes and then he will perform an eye exam.

First, he will examine your vision with one eye while you are wearing the contact and then he will do the same thing with the other eye. Finally, he will test your vision with both eyes simultaneously. This gives him an idea of whether the prescription you have received is indeed the one that best fits your sight correction needs. If everything is ok, you will be on your way to enjoy all the benefits of contacts. However, if there is a problem, the optometrist will resolve it by testing your eyes more to find out your exact prescription and your personal needs.

Contact lens fittings are painless, however if it is your first time wearing contact lenses you might feel some discomfort simply because your eye is not accustomed to the lens. This will resolve itself in time as your eye becomes accustomed to the lens. Sometimes doctors charge for contact lens fittings, while others charge one fee to cover the entire contact lens process. Regardless, you should find out about prices, payment plans and your insurance coverage before you begin your contact lens fittings.
