Biomedics toric lens

For people with astigmatism, a biomedics toric lens can correct the condition. Loosely defined, astigmatism is an error in the refraction of light within the eye. This error creates a visual disturbance. Astigmatism is usually caused by a misshaped cornea or lens (the area behind the cornea.) It is the most common vision problem and not very serious but can be corrected with a Biomedics toric lens.

There are several ways to treat it, including using biomedics toric lenses, glasses or refractive surgery. If it is never treated, the patient may experience eyestrain, headaches or blurred vision.Toric lenses are made in two types: soft lenses or RGP (Rigid Gas Permeable). It used to be that people with astigmatism could not wear lenses, but that is no longer the case. However, fitting toric lenses to your eyes does take some extra effort, because they are created with curvatures from two different angles for correcting both astigmatism and myopia (nearsightedness) or hyperopia (farsightedness). They are also manufactured so that they don't slip around on your eye or rotate when you blink. As a result of staying put on the eye, the toric lenses provide crisper, clearer vision.

Toric lenses by companies such as Biomedics cost more (usually $42.99 per box) than regular, spherical lenses, and having them fitted to your eye will also be more expensive than most contact lens fittings. But if you have astigmatism, it is well worth it. You can purchase Biomedics toric lens in several colors and types: disposable, frequent use, daily wear and non-disposable. Your ophthalmologist will tell you which type is the best for your particular condition. If your astigmatism is minor, you may be able to wear standard spherical lenses after all.
