Are you Puzzled by Allergic Reactions to Contact Lens SolutionsI have been having some major problems with allergic reactions to contact lens solutions. I never had a problem with this before so I thought it was unusual since I've been wearing contact lenses for several years. After a discussion with the nurse at my doctor's office, I've found out that it's not unusual for someone to develop allergic reactions to contact lens solutions even if they have used them for many years. The biggest cause of this allergic reaction is due to the preservatives found in the contact lens solution. While they are necessary for the long shelf life of the product, unfortunately, they do cause many people problems. These problems can be things like discomfort, or burning sensations, or eye redness and itchy dry eyes. What I did was after first talking to the nurse, she gave me some small samples of different types of contact lens solutions to try. I used each one for a few days. If it gave me problems I simply discarded it and went on to the next one. After a couple of weeks I had narrowed it down to two different solutions, either one of which seemed to work fine. After another quick talk with the nurse, I discovered that the reason these solutions were so much easier on the eyes was because they didn't contain a lot of preservatives. Most likely I just developed an allergy after so many years of using the same type of solution. So, if you've been having problems with allergic reactions to contact lens solutions, try and find a solution that contains as few preservatives as possible. The nurse at your eye doctor should be able to point you in the right direction.
